Serene Green

Serene Green returns for another show!

For lifelong friends Quentin Fisher and Michael Johnson, playing music together was engrained in their relationship from the start. After years of playing electric instruments in friends' basements, Quentin and Michael met unexpectedly at a nearby park, both with an acoustic guitar, and the two quickly developed an affinity for playing acoustic instruments together in the beautiful Pennsylvania outdoors. As a result, their musical vocabularies expanded, Quentin traded an electric guitar for a banjo, and car rides once filled with Rock, Rhythm & Blues, and Rap, were now filled with Folk, Americana, and later... Bluegrass. It wasn't long after the first taste of Old and in the Way's self-titled first album when it became clear to Quentin and Michael they didn't just want to listen to Bluegrass music -- They wanted to play it.

In the fall of 2014, the duo opened for Still Hand String Band, a Northeastern Pennsylvania Bluegrass band of the progressive variety, where they met banjo player Steve Leonard. Quentin had since hung up his banjo for a mandolin, and Steve's explosive banjo style quickly drew the attention of the boys, sparking their first musical friendship in the world of Bluegrass. Steve played banjo with Serene Green whenever he was available, but would continue touring with his primary band until its farewell performance in September of 2017. During that time, Steve introduced the boys to Shane McGeehan -- a young bluegrass whiz kid from Summit Hill, Pennsylvania. Shane grew up attending Bluegrass festivals with his family, and was proficient at Bluegrass guitar, bass, and singing. Shane joined Serene Green in the summer of 2015 as bassist, singer, and songwriter.

Since the official addition of Steve Leonard in early 2017, Serene Green has been touring as a quartet in over ten of the United States. They have opened for nationally-touring acts such as David Bromberg Band, Railroad Earth, Cabinet, Larry Keel, Jenni Lyn, and Mile Twelve. Serene Green released its first studio album, "To Whom It Pertains", in June 2017. The album consists of ten original songs written by each of the band members.
