Lorenz’s newest quartet, the Witherbees, is his most direct and tuneful approach to the modern 21st-century songbook. If you’ve heard Mike play his weekly gig at Tired Hands, you know that his idea of “jazz repertoire” is vast and highly interpretive. This group digs deep into that mindset, pulling their repertoire from such diverse places at Herbie Mann, Sonny Sharrock, Paul McCartney, Ryan Adams, Wilco, and the Magnetic Fields and that’s just the start. Their approach is open & expansive, interactive & soulful. The group has plans to perform often in 2019.
